Throughout the year, the cricket group host matches and competitions and we encourage as many members to become as involved as this is a great way to relax, have fun, enjoy your favourite sport, and meet new people.

ANZRI Cricket Carnival

A highlight in the calendar is the Australian & New Zealand Railway Institute (ANZRI) Cricket Carnivals, these have been contested since 1929, at rotating venues around the States of Australia & in New Zealand. These Carnivals are held usually over a 10-12 day period, and are as much a social as competitive event. Official Functions occur throughout the Carnival period, and visitors are welcome to attend as well.

Australian & New Zealand Railway Institute are looking for cricket players for next years ANZRI Railway Carnival in sunny Gold Coast, Queensland.

When: Sunday 12 February 2023 to Friday 17 February 2023

Where: Gold Coast, Queensland.

Pre-requisite: You must be a financial member of the Victorian Railways Institute (VRI)

Selected players will be required to apply for their own leave and pay a deposit, capitation fee, accommodation costs and travel costs. Team clothing will be supplied.

Carnival Updates

Congratulations to all participants of the ANZRI Cricket Carnival held in Launceston 6-11 February !

Victoria VRI made it to the Grand Final but were defeated 153 to 73 by Queensland -QRI.


Thanks to Sam Lawton and the ANZRI organising committee, the players, Mayor Albert van Zetten and the City of Launceston for supporting this long running event.

I am pleased to say the Victorians are in the Grand Final. We scraped in by 0 .7 points, although we won two games and NSW only managed one??

9/2/22 - update

First game was the T20

We played NSW batted first all out for 104 NSW got this in 16.4 overs.

Then it was the 40 over game yesterday and we lost to Queensland.

We batted first all out for 98.

They reached this in 17 overs with 5 wickets

by 5 wickets.

ANZRI CRICKET CARNIVAL 2019 - Annual Sports Report

The Bi-Annual ANZRI Cricket carnival, held on the Gold Coast from 16-22 February 2019, was won by the Victorian Team, comprising nine Metro and two TasRail employees. The T20 competition was won by Queensland, we lost both games.However, we fought back well to win the Big one in the 40 over games.


We were unbeaten in the two lead up games and qualified to play the Grand Final against NSW. Steve Jones, RahulPatel, Danny Grant, and Rajan Mohindru excelled in the bowling department, whilst Trent Swain 50, Ash Coles 52 made notable scores in the lead-up games.


In the grand finals we played NSW batting first were 165 for 8 after 40 overs, Danny Grant bowled well to get 3 for 21. Vic’s started well getting a good start and then a second-wicket partnership between Rahul Patel (47) and David Doran (31) then a few anxious moments before Ash Coles and Rajan Mohindru guided us through, and Victoria went on to win by 5 wickets.

Five Victorians were selected to the All Australian team: Trent Swain (capt), Rahul Patel,David Doran Danny Grant, and Ash Coles.
