Sports Personality of the Year - 2022

Shelley Holcombe, Ararat VRI Bowls Club –
nomination Murray Jensen, President

Shelly commenced bowling with Ararat VRI at the beginning of last year, as her husband Clayton Holcombe plays for VRI. Shelley hadn't had any previous experience of lawn bowling prior to commencing with us. Shelley in other words was a complete novice, but had a determination to learn and play regularly with our mid-week pennant side on Monday's during pennant season.

State bowling events are regular during October and January each year and offer opportunities to all bowlers to enter, either as a single bowler, or pairs, triples and fours, these events are created to allow bowlers to bowl at an elite level ultimately to find who is Victoria's best which can lead on to competing with the rest of the States winners to become Australia’s best.

Shelley entered the 'Victorian State Women’s Singles Novice Champions event" more for the experience, little did she know that she would proceed through the various regional knock out series to eventually playing off for the title of Victoria best Novice Singles Player at Bendigo, which she won, becoming the new "Victorian State Novice Champion" for 2021.

This was a magnificent effort for Shelley in her first year of bowling and the Ararat VRI Bowls Club is extremely proud of Shelley and look forward to following her successes in future bowling events.

Sports Personality of the Year - 2022

John Schenck, Bendigo Billiards and Snooker –
nomination Lyn Russell Secretary

All Bendigo would like to nominate John Schenk as VRI Sports Personality of the year. John was definitely the Bendigo Sports star of the year. It seems whatever Tournament entered he was successful.

John led the way in the Bendigo Billiard and Snooker Association competition with a season high break of 86, and he amasses a competition high of 34 breaks above 30 through round nine. John also recently won his third Victorian Billiards Champions. He has also previously won the Victorian 150-up Championship.

Premier Centre of the Year - 2022

The VRI Board and Management are pleased to announce Geelong VRI Centre as the
Premier Centre of the year.

This year Geelong has seen a new a partnership with a local dramatic arts group (GSODA) leasing facilities, which in turn caused a need for toilet facilities to be built in the snooker room, all organised by Paul Dunn and the Geelong team.

Also, a significant investment by the Geelong Snooker & Billiards Association saw the well overdue upgrade to the 3 snooker tables. This has resulted in a considerable increase in membership numbers. Congratulations!

Newly created award - Volunteer of the Year 2022

The VRI Board and Management are pleased to introduce the newly created award that aims to acknowledge the volunteer members who have gone above and beyond during the year for the VRI.

This year we are pleased to announce Paul Dunn, VRI Geelong as the recipient for his efforts at the Geelong VRI over the year. Largely due to the work, often single highhandedly of Paul, Geelong has seen the facilitation of the new user groups and consequent changes to facilities.
